BlackDiamond® Overview
The exacting demands of IP Telephony deployments, enterprise aggregation, corporate data centers and network backbones, and Metro Ethernet provider Points of Presence require solutions that combine consistent performance, carrier-class availability, enhanced security, and simplified management. The BlackDiamond® series of chassis-based switches from Extreme Networks® are designed and built to deliver these critical capabilities.
The BlackDiamond 12804R service aggregation switch is purpose-built for metro providers to deliver new business and residential services. With innovations in tiered bandwidth control, granular content delivery, and the CLEAR-Flow security engine, metro providers can now offer more revenue-generating services per switch. New network scaling, service provisioning and service diagnostics features support deployment and management of large networks with ease.
The BlackDiamond 12804C and BlackDiamond10808 intelligent core and data center switches are designed to support needs of the converged networks with demanding data, Voice-over-IP (VoIP) and other mission-critical applications. Based on Extreme Networks® fourth generation of Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) technology, these switches include longest prefix match (LPM) routing for IPv4 and IPv6, programmable packet parsing and editing, robust multicast performance, and the revolutionary CLEAR-Flow security infrastructure. These features enhance routing performance, allow support of new network protocols without disruptive hardware upgrades, enable seamless voice and video distribution, and enable real-time response to Day-Zero network Denial of Service attacks. Features such as Quality of Service, Access Control Lists (ACLs), and statistics gathering can be enabled without affecting packet throughput, even at 10 gigabit data rates.
The versatile BlackDiamond 8800 family provides the universal port for IP Telephony with integrated support for Power over Ethernet at gigabit data rates. Available in 10-slot and 6-slot models, BlackDiamond 8800 series switches provide voice-class availability and power at every port, making it the ideal modular unified access solution for a combined edge and aggregation solution in a converged network. BlackDiamond 8800 series switches have a variety of choice in their Gigabit Ethernet modules to provide the optimized solution for gigabit access edge as well as gigabit aggregation. The aggregation optimized I/O modules provide non-blocking local switching and backplane connectivity for up to 48 gigabits of port bandwidth. This unprecedented performance also makes BlackDiamond 8800 series ideal for medium enterprise cores and as an interconnect switch for high-performance computing applications. The highly redundant chassis design and system architecture provide voice-class availability at any network location. Our revolutionary ExtremeXOS™ operating system, the industry's first truly modular network operating system, increases availability over and beyond the chassis level high availability design. Self-healing process restart ensures that the switch can recover from failures without rebooting the entire operating system. Software modules can be loaded or upgraded dynamically, and the ExtremeXOS architecture also supports hitless software failover and upgrades.
All BlackDiamond switches are designed and built to minimize latency and jitter, which degrade the quality of voice and video applications. They're also highly resilient, a key aspect of voice-class availability. One of the many mechanisms used to ensure resiliency, is Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching (EAPS) link resiliency standard, available on all switches from Extreme Networks. With sub-50-millisecond link failover recovery time, you can be certain that voice calls won't be dropped.
Our multi-layered approach to security safeguards your network. Airtight authentication blocks users at the switch, until they've been approved. Extensive ACLs make it easy to apply policies that prevent users from reaching restricted resources, without slowing performance. Additionally, we have developed proven-interoperable solutions with best-of-breed partners, so you can implement the security architecture that's best for you.
Management simplicity has always been critical; it becomes even more so as a single, converged network carries all of an organization's voice, video, and data traffic. All of our products share the same user interface and management framework, ensuring end-to-end simplicity. We also offer management software that allow you to monitor your wired and wireless IP-based data and phone infrastructure and take the effort out of moves, adds and changes. |
